Las Vegas Wedding | Kelly & Sean

I am a member of an online community of photographers called SWPB (greatest.group.ever.). One of the members, Kelly, said last week, her and her man were eloping in Vegas on Sunday of WPPI. It was from there organized by Christine (another photographer) that we would “flash mob” the wedding. Everyone & anyone who wanted to show up at the Bellagio was welcomed to shoot the wedding. I tentatively planned to be part of this, but we had plans to see the Hoover Dam & weren’t sure how that would impact our afternoon. Lucky for us, we pulled on to the strip about 315…. wedding was scheduled for 4! Perfect, we can make it!!! I am SO glad we did. We got to the designated spot a little early, Jeremy & I staked out facing opposite directions so we could spot them coming. Then we looked down & saw the groom standing with a few other SWPBers, we joined them…. and just in time…. there Kelly came! We decided to pick a different spot for the ceremony, so we made our way down the sidewalk…. and the people around us started to chatter… “omg, they are getting married… we have to go watch!!” …. and they did! Kelly & Sean had quite the crowd surrounding them! The wedding was sweet & short, lasting only a few moments. Congratulations Kelly & Sean!!! It was so wonderful to be part of your day! All of us…. Other Photographers who particpated: Christine Tremoulet, Dustin Izatt, Luis Toledo, Leo Druker, Tommy Huynh, Daniel Dunlap, Corey Ann, Luis Godinez

Las Vegas | Preview

Jeremy and I flew out to Las Vegas early Sunday morning for WPPI. It was a great trip, that was all too short. I we did some sight seeing, took photography classes, and shot a wedding…. yes, shot a wedding. Here’s a little preview. I’ll post more tomorrow 🙂

Wedding | Dresses

Over the last few months I’ve been posting different dresses, accessories, ect. to the JJ Horton Photography facebook page. I thought, why not post here about that good stuff too! I love it when a bride (or bridesmaids) where something a little unexpected. Don’t get me wrong, I LOOOVE a good couture ballgown, but sometimes I long to see a bride wear something that fits her personality a bit better. If you don’t love long, formal dresses, then why should you wear one on your wedding day? Don’t try and be something you’re not. Some great places to look for dresses can be right under your nose. Ann Taylor, Talbots, Asos, & Amazon just to name a few. This morning I was surfing Asos, a European company, to post on my other blog and noticed an abundance of cute, white dresses! I thought I’d post them here 🙂 I love the skirt on the one far right. That dress actually comes in a bunch of different colors too 🙂 It doesn’t just have to be for the off-beat bride…. you could wear these to your bachelorette party, your bridal shower, or rehearsal dinner! Don’t mind, the crappy photos, they’re just screenshots. Happy Shopping!

Hiking at Hanging Rock

We had a magazine shoot to do early Saturday in Kernersville, so we took the opportunity once we were done to go and do a little exploring up at Hanging Rock. Jeremy had never been to the waterfalls, so I thought I’d give him the grand tour….. I thought… oh it’s just off the parking lot, not far at all….. well, I guess it isn’t far, but when you’re in pointy flats with no socks…. it seems FAR! I am sure I got lots of strange looks from the hikers we passed in their full on hiking gear with walking sticks…. but I avoided eye contact with everyone we met on the trail. After all, I used to hike up to Hanging Rock once a week in flip flops, no biggie. ….. ok now, CALLING ALL BRIDES WHO LIKE “RUSTIC” PLACES…… This little shelter is on the trail, right off the parking lot…. maybe a couple hundred yards….. Someone please have a small wedding or elope here… and let us photograph it….. it’s SO ADORABLE!!! …. and then maybe head over to the Boat House for your reception…. I think it would be awesome 🙂 The view from the boat house is on the left…. it’s a stunning lake you can canoe or paddle boat on, with a beach to tan…. (fyi…. this would also be a great spot for bridals or engagement photos…. I’m just sayin’) (with the way the benches are arranged, it looks like their may have been a wedding here recently) ….. once again…. hiking in pointy flats is not advised, but can be done 🙂
