Favorite Dresses

It’s no secret I love a pretty dress. My closet reveals my sickness…. hoards of dresses, fancy, casual, work… I love a good dress. I also LOVE it when my clients select a perfectly feminine dress for their shoot. This could be an engagement, maternity or family session! I am a firm believer you do NOT have to wear a “maternity” dress for a maternity session (I didn’t!). You’ll open yourself to so many more options if you don’t limit yourself to what stores like Destination Maternity want to sell you. The two in the top right corner could be stunning for maternity sessions. The lighter pink one also comes in blue, but it is sold directly through the brand site, here. These would also be wonderful for beach sessions. I’m already booking folks on vacation this summer in the Wilmington area (Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Ocean Isle, Oak Island, Bald Head Island) if you want to jump on my calendar, email me! What makes these favorites? 1. The patterns are perfectly proportioned, and won’t overwhelm you. 2. They almost all have sleeves. If you have insecurities about your arms (many women do!) I would encourage you to wear a dress with a sleeve, or a cute jean jacket! 3. They all give you a defined waist! This will make you appear skinnier. If you select a very lose dress or top, it can make you appear larger than you are because it has no shape. Anyone remember What Not To Wear? Clinton and Stacey always looked for tailored clothes, treat this no different! All these dresses are linked, just click on the one you want to purchase! (not affiliate links… I’m not cool enough ha!) Put your guy in a pair of navy pants and a white shirt…. done! See you on the beach, k?!

Karen and Paul are no strangers to this site… and even years ago, when I was in photography class, I made Karen model for me in the back yard of my apartment… I’ll have to dig those images up for y’all!  Karen and Paul recently moved to the southern Maryland suburbs of Washington DC for Paul’s new job. They made their way south to spend Labor Day weekend with us at the beach house, and we ventured out to the sand for a quick session on Sunday night. Karen always takes my advice on what to wear so easily… she picked Porter’s striped shirt, and then pulled colors from it for her and Paul’s wardrobe choices. I’m sad that beach sessions have basically ended for the year… but here’s to being prepared for next year!!

Amanda is the very talented gal behind Virilovely Designs, a custom papergoods company located here in Charlotte. I was so excited when she contacted me to capture her extended family while on vacation at Holden Beach. Beach sessions continue to make my heart sing, summer after summer, capturing families, couples and even weddings just doesn’t get old to me! I’ve currently got TWO spots left for August, so let me know if you want one!

Maternity | Radhika & Ian

Several years ago I met up with Radhika and Ian for a session at Ft. Fisher. I loved getting to know them and follow them these last few years. Fast forward, and they are about to welcome a baby next month! I cannot wait for these two to become parents and join this sorority/fraternity Jeremy and I have become part of… yay for someone else to commiserate the ups and downs of parent life with!! Carolina Beach is obviously one of our favorite spots since we have a house there, but it hosts an array of nooks and crannies to photograph in as well. I never tire of photographing people there. With plenty of pretty spots to use as backdrops, it makes my job dreamy. We started out in a little neighborhood just down the street from our house, it’s a spot of desired to photograph a couple for a long time…. and this was the perfect opportunity! I am sure I will be back for more sessions here! All images are Kodak Portra 400, shot on a Pentax 645N, 105mm lens. The next set were taken down on the beach…. no need to lug my gear to a tropical island, film captures these colors so perfect right here in North Carolina!
