Senior | Alex

Last week I met up with Alex and her former horse Promise. She just graduated from Pine Lake Prep and simultaneously sold Promise and wanted some photos of the two of them together…. I couldn’t have been more excited to arrive at a barn with stunning light, a beautiful horse, and a lovely girl! Alex, I’m so jealous of the killer tan you’ll get while attending UNCW 🙂 To see all the photos from this session & to order prints, click here.   This is Bo… I just had to include him here, he’s a mini donkey and SO FREAKING CUTE! Alex said he tends to get loose because he’s so little he can get through the fence. I wanted to take him home for Bender to play with! I can’t express how much I love shooting seniors…. interested in booking a session? Contact me!

Portraits | 2011 Review

As promised, I’ve followed yesterday’s 2011 wedding review with our portraits 🙂 I really love doing portrait sessions, they’re so much more relaxed than a wedding day. We get to chit-chat and get to know our clients a bit better. While I really feed off the energy of a wedding day, the slower pace of portrait sessions are so nice! I included our bridals in here, as we consider them a “portrait” session….. I didn’t have bridals done when we got married, but I SO wish I had! It really allows you to try out your hair/makeup/shoes/jewels…. all together with that fabulous dress. ***I’ve been thinking about giving away a bridal session to our next bride we book….. would anyone be interested 😉 ????     Thank you all for making our 2011 extra special!   PS…. did you notice that little one in the bottom left corner??? I haven’t blogged her yet, but she’s the newest addition to the Horton family! Jeremy’s sister had her the week before Christmas, Anna Beth Avery 🙂

Personal | Gus

We have a room in our home that rarely gets entered. It’s our guest room. Usually we go in looking for something we’ve stashed in the closet or dresser…. or because we can’t find the cat. The one perfectly awesome thing about this room…. it’s all white. White walls and a white duvet on the bed… with a big double window that faces  north west… it gets great light in the evening. With all that white, it’s a great place to shoot little things… like my dog, Gus. I am lucky enough to work full time for nonprofit that hosts contests to it’s members every fall including, art, baking, crafts…. and photography 🙂 There’s an animal/pet category and I knew what I wanted to do…. my Gus Gus in his Sunday best.   Wish us luck this weekend at the contest 🙂

Pets | Melanie & Bogart …… a look back!

My good friend, Melanie asked if I would help her out with a little project she’s working on. She asked if she could use one of the photos I took of her a year and a half ago for a marketing project…. I said sure, but I’d rather just snap a new one! Looking back at my work a year and a half ago can be painful, but it lets me know how much I’ve grown, changed and improved! November 2009: February 2011: (This is also nearly straight out of the camera…. very little editing!) wow…. looking at these side by side makes the new one look really BLUE! I will be fixing that when I get home tonight! (see you never stop learning!) ETA…. Spent a little more time on this photo this morning…. took out some of the blue tone, gave her a little extra lipstick & warmed the photo up a bit…. better?
