Personal | Bald Head Island

My sister and I are pretty good at taking hints… so when Dad had mentioned for the 38th time he’d like to go see Bald Head sometime… well, we made it a point to take him for his birthday since throwing a surprise party was old news. We boarded the ferry and spent the afternoon exploring. All images shot on my Bronica ETRS on Kodak Portra 400 film.

OBX

I got my film back from our mini vacation at Carolina Beach for the 4th of July and my mini road trip down the Outer Banks a week later. At the begining of the year I vowed that I would one and for all see Cape Hatteras this summer… to be honest, I’m embarrassed I’ve never been. So.. I spent the 2nd-6th at Carolina Beach, ventured to my day job summer camp in Columbia, NC (north-east, NC) and then decided I would drive back down via the Outer Banks to Carolina Beach again for the weekend. I knew it would be a long haul (9 hours instead of 3.5), but worth it. I will say driving Hwy 12 was surreal, beautiful, and nerve wracking. To be alone, on an island, hours from anyone you know was a little unsettling. I’m very glad I did it, but don’t think I’ll ever do it again, alone! These images are a mix of different locations along these 2 weeks, from Ocean Isle, up through Nags Head, I would LOVE to go back and shoot weddings in these places!! Prints of these images may be ordered here. *Special pricing!

Film | Wedding | Carrie & Brendan

At Carrie & Brendan’s wedding down at Pawley’s Island I challenged myself to shoot more film than I normally do. I love incorporating the unique look of film into the wedding collections I deliver! Don’t worry, a full post of digital images is coming very soon! These are a mix of 35mm Kodak Portra, medium format Fuji 400h, medium format Ilford 3200 *Fun Fact* Most of the images published in Martha Stewart Weddings & Southern Weddings are film

Friday | Yum

You may or may not know that I work full time for a nonprofit. One of my many jobs is to put together our bi-monthly magazine. I basically photograph everything in it (including the image below- which is on the counter top at the beach house!), arrange all the content and coordinate it to hit the press & then mailboxes. Through my organization we offer contests, one of which is baking. I’m proud to say my cookies took 1st place in the peanut cookie category! If you get a sweet tooth this weekend, whip up a batch of these! Image: Portra 400, 35mm
