Back in late winter my sister and I decided being the good southern women we are, we needed to get our feet wet in the equestrian world… ya know, so we can build up to going to The Derby one day. The last Saturday of April arrived, we donned our southern frocks,  packed up the Mini with essentials…. champagne flutes, silver candlesticks, homemade cheese straws and bourbon.

Being our first year, we were not sure what to expect and we didn’t want to invest too much into the experience, so we got the least expensive tailgate in Crest (the infield with no tents). About an hour or two the day, hoovering inside what little shade the hatch of the mini  provided, we decided having a rail spot with a tent would be well worth the extra expense next year!
