Beaufort NC

Back in June, I made a trip out to Beaufort, NC for my day job. I had been there a handful of times prior to this trip, but I was usually distracted by other events happening…. namely, the last time before this, I was shooting a wedding out there – so no real “explore” time. Thankfully, even though we were out there for work, we did have a little downtime so I got to walk around and take some photos before I had to head out! All images 35mm Portra 400. I was there just before July 4th… how charming is this home decorated!? We rented the Admiral’s Watch home just north of downtown Beaufort. It was the perfect size for us all to have our own bedrooms… and the view out the crows nest wasn’t too shabby! (the first photo of the blog, and that one next to the church steeple were both taken from the top!). The first and second floors were nearly identical, they each had a kitchen and living area. I’d really love to go back and photograph more couples in this part of our state… it’s beachy and charming, without the muss and fuss of bikini-clad tourists! This particular church, St. Paul’s Episcopal, is just darling!! I need to have a couple get married there!

Couple | Marc & Megan

Sometimes you just need to dress a cute couple up in a bright, non-traditional outfit for a beach session! Pastel’s have taken over the wedding industry, and while I don’t hate it, sometimes I just crave more color! This Ft. Fisher session is one of my favorites to date… the happy colors and infectious smiles are my favorite! We started with her vintage dress and then found a coordinating shirt for him to wear. Marc and Megan have been married nearly 2 years… so we’ll just call this an anniversary session 🙂 Flowers: Farmgirl Flowers (a wonderful alternative to a traditional florist in a pinch!) Dress: Mayberry Market in Mt. Airy (vintage) Ribbon: Hanah Silk Shirt & Pants: J Crew Film: Portra 400 The FIND Lab

Engagement | Jamie & Brian Part 2

OK! On to part 2 of Jamie & Brian! With being out of town for my day job all weekend, it took a little longer than expected to get the 2nd half of this post done…. but here goes nothing! We left the grassy fields & giant trees for….. a less than desirable section of Charlotte. I drive under this bridge a lot. Every time I think, gah, wouldn’t it be awesome to shoot in that bridge!?! Well, when Jamie gave me free reign to do what I wanted for this shoot, I knew I had to at least bat my eyelashes, sweet talk & bribe whoever need-be to get in this bridge. It was sealed off years ago due to “personal safely issues”. Well, after a string of emails to people at the City, I located the right person, with the key. They were so sweet to unlock this bridge for me, and trust me on it. I’m so thankful they did. We got countless honks from highway passengers as they watched us shoot from below! I had grand ideas of filling a section of the bridge with balloons, having them hang around Jamie & Brian, shooting through the balloons, ect….. all of which went right out the window. I had NO IDEA how windy the bridge would be because of all the traffic rushing down below (and the windy weather). We couldn’t let the balloons go, as they would go flying down the bridge towards the entrance (we almost lost 2!) So even though things didn’t go as planned, I was still thrilled to shoot inside this bridge!!! We started by having Jamie & Brian run up towards the middle of the bridge…. I really love these images & their expressions! The images above are all Jeremy’s…. the 2 below are mine 🙂 Thank you SO MUCH to Chip, Louis, Garland, Kumar & Cheryl with the City of Charlotte!

Engagement | Jamie & Brian Part 1

Jamie & Brian…. they are younger siblings of my grade school friends. They’re cute as a button together, and I’m so delighted they’ve chosen me to document their wedding this October…. but Jamie felt like she needed “practice in front of the camera” first…… yeah right…. this girl is a knockout & couldn’t take a bad photo if she tried! She pretty much gave me free reign to do any shoot I had in mind. Picnic themed it was. Lucky for us, her & Brian like to visit a local bakery, Sweet Cakes, in Cornelius….. bam… we just had our picnic food… cupcakes! The skies were very gray, and rain kept threatening our shoot…. but we were persistent & Jamie & Brian were troopers 🙂 Our first stop: the bakery of course. Then on to the picnic! I absolutely LOVE this last series!!! Jeremy captured it perfectly! Stay tuned for part 2.

Engagement: Andrea & Steven

Jeremy and I strolled through downtown Wilmington, on Friday evening of 4th of July weekend…. I was remembering all the wonderful times I had when I lived there, and didn’t realize how much I missed that atmosphere. As we walked around, we were also checking out some good spots to bring Andrea & Steven to…. We made our way down to the Cape Fear River Deck to meet them, and see exactly where they’d be getting married this September. We hoped and prayed these people would be fun and photogenic… we hit the jackpot. They were both, and well dressed for an engagement shoot! Andrea said their wedding colors would be navy, sage and a little orange (squee!) so we brought along a few props to include in some photos…. Steven- you make some priceless expressions…. silly-ness. A Favorite. Rawr. Andrea & Steven, thank you so much for being great sports, and hiking all over Wilmington! We are so excited to be part of your wedding day!!
